Although rice and millet beers were brewed in India long before the arrival of Europeans. British-style beer was introduced to India by the East India Company around 1716. To protect the beer from spoiling during the long sea voyage, it needed a high alcohol – ‘Export Strength’ – and hops content. India Pale Ale (IPA) was created about 1787 and became popular in England around 1840.

Viiking Ventures Secures Booker

Goa Premium Beer importer Viiking Ventures UK has announced that wholesalers Booker and Makro are to stock its craft beer. The announcement followed news that Ben Parmer was appointed Managing Directer. The gluten-free pilsner is being trialled in 650ml bottles and 500ml cans for three months – at Booker outlets in Acton, Brighton, Croydon, Dagenham, Nine Elms, St Pancras, Sidcup, Southend, Medway and Wimbledon plus as well as Makro depots in Charlton, Enfield and Rayleigh – ahead of a decision whether to roll out the product nationwide.
